Company History
Cyril started working in the logging industry in Gladstone during World War II when his most sophisticated piece of plant was a Ford truck. The truck served him well and helped him add a D4 bulldozer to his repertoire. With the dozer, Cyril was able to venture into building dams and minor earthworks. He worked unbelievably hard for the next 20 years and saw steady growth of his little company to the point where his largest project was the site works for the Calcap Power Station in Biloela, Central Queensland.
In the 1970s Neil Golding joined the business as an 18 year-old labourer and Cyril appointed Dick Woolcock as general manager, just in time for a boom in civil works in central Queensland. Cyril Golding Earthmoving was kept busy with major projects that included Queensland Alumina's Red Mud Dam, a dam on Palm Island, contract mining at Mary Kathleen and numerous projects throughout the Bowen Basin. During the 1980s a modern and highly professional management structure was installed to support the rapidly expanding Golding. The modernised structure served Golding well as the company took on large-scale projects such as the Stanwell Energy Park, near Rockhampton on the central Queensland coast. Many more major construction and mining projects were undertaken and the company grew significantly in knowledge, capability and size. Our most significant growth and expansion has occurred over the past decade, with projects such as the Boyne Smelter Ltd, RG Tanna Berth and Ensham Mine expansions, Townsville Zinc Refinery, Phosphate Hill and Equigold mines, Comalco Alumina Refinery, and significant civil works on BMA (BHP Mitsubishi Alliance) minesites. In 2000 Trevor Davies took on the role of general manager when Dick Woolcock retired. Now as Golding's CEO, Trevor continues to foster the continuing growth and development of the company.
The purchase of the Golding family shareholding by CHAMP Private Equity in early 2008 provides an even stronger platform for Goldings' future growth and development. |
