  • Golding Expands Fleet
  • Golding has demonstrated its commitment to growth following recent additions to its large privately owned fleet of heavy earthmoving and mining equipment.

The newly acquired equipment includes eight Caterpillar 785D Trucks which have been put to work in the Bowen Basin for use in Golding's contract mining operations.

Five of the trucks were added to BMA's Gregory mine site and three to BMA's Blackwater mine site.

The 785D Mining Truck, developed specifically for high production mining and construction, will enhance Golding's ability to respond quickly to demands for increased productivity.

Golding has also added four Caterpillar 740 Articulated Trucks to its civil operations at Daunia Mine site near Moranbah, with another seven to arrive by the end of January.

Golding continues to invest in the fleet to introduce new production and technology gains.

Expanding the fleet will ensure Golding continues to meet project schedule demands.

  • Successful Installation of RG Tanna Linkspan
  • On December 12 2011, the Golding team for the Gladstone LNG (GLNG) Mainland Facilities project made a considerable achievement with the successful installation of the RG Tanna RoRo (roll-on, roll-off) linkspan.

The adjacent LoLo (load-on, load-off) and RoRo facilities constructed by Golding at the RG Tanna site will be used to transfer raw materials from the mainland to the GLNG natural gas liquefaction plant on Curtis Island.

Golding's project manager for the GLNG Mainland Facilities project, Grant Christensen, attributed the success of the installation to the months of detailed engineering and planning of those involved.

"The installation of the RG Tanna Linkspan is one of the most significant milestones for the GLNG Mainland Facilities project, and I am incredibly pleased that it was undertaken in a safe and successful manner", he said.

The overall $16 billion GLNG project is a joint venture partnership between Santos and three of the world's largest LNG companies, PETRONAS, Total and KOGAS.

The project involves taking coal seam gas (CSG) from the Bowen and Surat Basins and converting it to liquid natural gas (LNG) at the gas liquefaction plant.

The project will initially produce 7.8 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG, with full production potentially reaching 10 mtpa.

  • Blunder Road Upgrade Completed
  • Brisbane motorists awaiting the completion of the Blunder Road Upgrade have put rubber to the road with the new and improved thoroughfare officially reopened on Thursday November 17.

Despite more than 40 per cent of the original project duration being lost to the wrath of Mother Nature, the team from Golding were still able to complete the project ahead of schedule.

The Brisbane City Council $55 million upgrade of Blunder Road began construction in March 2010 and is one of Brisbane's biggest suburban road upgrades in a decade.

The road was officially opened by Lord Mayor Graham Quirk who said that the upgrade would help reduce travel times and divert heavy vehicle traffic away from residential areas.

"Blunder Road is a major arterial road that carries large volumes of trucks each day and it's important for Brisbane's economic development that we have quality freight routes," Cr Quirk said.

The construction included two and a half kilometres of new road, two new bridges over Blunder Creek, new traffic signals at two intersections and more public transport options.

The project was spilt into two stages with the first involving the realignment of Blunder Road with a four lane road between Blunder Creek and Wadeville Street and the second stage involving upgrading the road between Blunder Creek and Crossacres Street to four lanes.

Golding's project manager for the Blunder Road Upgrade, Michael Friebel, said that one of the biggest achievements of the project was completing construction during one of the wettest summer seasons Brisbane had seen in 100 years.

  • Gladstone Airport Flying High
  • On Tuesday November 15, Gladstone Airport was named Regional Airport of the Year at the Australian Airports Association (AAA) National Airport Industry Awards held in Brisbane.

The category was for airports with 50 thousand to 499 thousand passengers, with contenders for the award including Albury, Geraldton, Emerald and Mount Isa airports.

The accolade follows Golding's completion of Gladstone Regional Council's Gladstone Airport Reconstruction project in April this year which involved reconstructing, widening and extending the runway to cater for larger aircrafts and the implementation of an instrument landing system.

Gladstone Regional Council Mayor, Cr Gail Sellers and Airport Portfolio spokesperson Cr Clyde Cameron, accepted the award and took the opportunity to thank the staff, contractors and architects who worked on the project.

The Executive Director of AAA, Caroline Wilkie, described the upgrade as a planning success story, saying that the success of the project will ensure the airport continues to deliver significant social and economic benefits to the Gladstone region.

  • Golding Industry Conference 2011
  • The annual Golding Industry Conference held October 19-20 at Central Queensland University, Gladstone, has been hailed a strong success.

Golding was proud to continue its partnership with Gladstone Engineering Alliance (GEA) and sponsor Gladstone's premier industry conference.

"Response to this year's Golding Conference has been outstanding and we are delighted with the show of enthusiasm and support from businesses Australia wide," GEA General Manager Carli Hobbs said.

The conference focused on the challenges and prospects facing local suppliers, contractors and businesses in the Central Queensland region and provided opportunities for industry delegates to be presented with the latest project updates.

Golding CEO Geoff Caton, who was a keynote speaker at the conference, said the number of infrastructure projects commencing construction in and around Gladstone will be transformational for regional Queensland.

"Given the sheer scale of many of the projects to be constructed in the next five to ten years throughout regional Queensland, there are unprecedented opportunities for local and regional industry to play a major role in the delivery of these projects", Mr Caton said.

The conference concluded with the RBS Morgans Industry Gala Dinner which included the conference's first awards ceremony to acknowledge the work of the region's successful entrepreneurs and businesses.

Boris Antic (Gladstone Pressure Welders) received the Forty Calis Memorial Award for showing entrepreneurial spirit to gain business success in the engineering and support sector.

The Wayne Peachey Memorial Award was presented to James Roberston (Bill Robertson Toyota) for outstanding accomplishments in the past year and demonstrated exceptional quality in a service or product.

Cyril Golding, Colin Walz and the late Wayne Peachey were nominated for the inaugural GEA Industry Hall of Fame in recognition of their contributions to the region's industrial development and prosperity.

Cyril Golding was awarded the honour and became the first person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame for his establishment of Golding.

  • Golding Completes Construction of Noosa Junction Station
  • One of Golding's long awaited civil construction projects, Noosa Junction Station, began operating on Monday August 29, with nine local bus services benefiting from the new transport hub.

The $10 million Translink project was a major investment in public transport for the region with funding from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, State Government and Federal Government.

Construction involved the reconfiguration of an existing car park and the creation of a seven stop bus station across two platforms at the intersection of Cooyar Street and Sunshine Beach Road, Noosa Junction.

A community open day was held on the Sunday August 28 to showcase the architecturally designed station and all of its facilities.

The event provided a chance for locals to become familiar with the service changes and take part in the official celebrations.

On the day, Translink Director of Infrastructure and Investment, Matt Longland, passed on his congratulations to the Golding team for their contribution to the project.

Noosa Junction Station now features safe drop-off and pick up areas, bicycle storage, a travel information pod, facilities for bus drivers and an attractive courtyard with seating areas, hanging gardens and feature lighting.

Sunshine Coast Councillor Russell Green said that the new station would encourage the use of public transport by providing a convenient and central location for public transport and tourism in the region.

Cr Green said that the station will help revitalise Noosa Junction and cater for future public transport growth.

  • Golding Celebrates Official Opening of Forgan Bridge
  • On August 14 2011, Golding joined in the celebration of the official opening of the Forgan Bridge, Mackay.

The Forgan Bridge replacement and duplication was one of Golding's major civil infrastructure projects which involved the construction of a new four lane bridge, 485 metres long over the Pioneer River.

The $148 million project, funded by the state government, began construction in May 2008 and has been highly anticipated by the community.

On the day of the official opening, thousands arrived at the bridge, eager to take part in the celebrations which included live entertainment, food and market stalls, the official ceremony and an impressive fireworks display.

The event marked a significant milestone in the development of transport infrastructure for the city.

Since its original opening in 1938, the bridge has been vital to the Mackay community, linking the heart of the city to the areas north of the Pioneer River.

The bridge was named after Mary Forgan, the mother of former Queensland Premier William Forgan-Smith who served Mackay between 1915 and 1942.

His grandson, also named William Forgan-Smith, was a guest of honour at the ceremony and expressed great pleasure to join in the reopening of Forgan Bridge.

Mr Forgan-Smith along with The Honourable Craig Wallace MP, The Honourable Tim Mulherin MP and Member for Mackay, and Mackay Mayor Col Meng were given the honour of the cutting the commemorative ribbon.

"Replacing the old Forgan Bridge is a part of the government's commitment to meeting Mackay's needs for healthy growth," Mr Wallace said.

He went on to congratulate both the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Golding on their fine work in the completion of the project and also thanked the residents of Mackay for their patience during the construction stages.

Mr Mulherin said that the Forgan Bridge replacement and duplication was the largest road project ever undertaken in Mackay's history and was a necessary step in accommodating for the city's anticipated population and economic growth during the next two decades.
