Dawson Highway timber bridge replacement
Golding completed the replacement of five existing low level timber bridges with 5 new precast prestressed concrete bridges on behalf of the Department of Transport and Main Roads Queensland. The new structures improved flood immunity and increased transport efficiencies with weight restrictions being lifted from this section of the Dawson Highway.
The five project sites were:
- Nine Mile Creek – 19km west of Calliope
- Catfish Creek – 22km west of Calliope
- Sheep Station Creek – 23km west of Calliope
- Maxwelton Creek – 38km west of Calliope
- Doubtful Creek – 44km west of Calliope
The project scope included all piling foundation works, cast insitu concrete substructure, precast post tensioned superstructure and bridge and safety rails. Each bridge had new approaches constructed with two of the bridges having reinforced earth embankments to strengthen the approaches during large floods.
Each bridge site had the Dawson Highway diverted around the works area on sealed sidetracks designed and constructed by Golding.
