Wave 1 Soft Soils
Golding’s first NSW project was awarded in January 2015. It involves the construction of early works required for the upgrade of the Pacific Highway. Wave 1 is the section on the Clarence River floodplain extending approximately 10km north and south from Maclean. It is the first works on the $4.5b Woolgoolga to Ballina upgrade of the Pacific Highway being delivered by Pacific Complete for NSW Roads and Maritime Services.
This current Golding project involves the construction of environmental controls, demolition, clearing and grubbing, permanent accesses off the old Pacific Highway, winning of materials from project borrow pits, installation of wick drains, and preload embankments.
Golding is working closely with Pacific Complete and RMS as the overall project design is completed so that embankments are constructed in the optimal areas for future works.
The Clarence valley contains significant environmental values and is a high rainfall area. Golding is implementing strict environmental controls to ensure that any disturbance is confined to the construction footprint. An interesting aspect of the project is the re-use of cleared timber which is being hauled to Harwood Sugar Mill to produce electricity in the co-generation plant.
