John Muntz Causeway

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) undertook this project to provide the road with better flood resilience and reduce the impact of flooding during wet-weather events. The new roundabout allows traffic to flow more freely than previously and was designed to take into account the anticipated future growth in the area.

The project involved the construction of a 60m, two-lane, three-span bridge immediately downstream of the John Muntz Causeway over the Coomera River in southeast Queensland. The new bridge required tie-ins to Tamborine-Oxenford Road and the project also included an upgrade to an existing intersection at Tamborine-Oxenford Road and Oxenford Road-Coomera Gorge Road (Maudsland Road) to accommodate the new roundabout and bridge.

Also part of the project scope was relocating an existing water main under the new bridge and demolishing and removing the old causeway.
